French Quarter's 24-hr fitness center makes keeping fit as a UA student easier than ever!

Whether you built a gym routine while living on-campus or want to start good habits when moving into your Tuscaloosa apartment, you might be wondering where to work out once you move out of the dorms. While students living on-campus have easy access to The Witt, those in UA off-campus housing often want something more tailored to their lifestyle. There are plenty of options to choose from based on price, distance, and facilities that best fit your goals.

University Rec CentersWhere to Work Out

Just because you're a bit further from campus doesn't mean you have to give up Bama gyms. Many freshmen prefer The Witt Center because it's a short walk from the dorms, if not immediately next to them. The building is, however, not as easy to access if you're coming from outside of campus. That's why the Student Recreation Center is a favorite of those that have moved into an apartment. Both gyms offer basketball courts, rock walls, and all the standard equipment you could ask for. But the Rec Center has an indoor swimming pool, track, and sauna as well. As long as you're a student at The University of Alabama you have free access to both The Witt and the Student Recreation Center.

If you prefer workout facilities closer to home, then be sure to prioritize fitness centers in your apartment search. These gyms often have no restriction on hours of operation, so they are open whenever you have time to exercise. However, they tend to be smaller than university facilities or commercial gyms. A large portion of Tuscaloosa apartments also have pools that are open year-round for avid swimmers or those that want a place to chill out and tan. Want somewhere to work out without the drive? Gyms near Tuscaloosa apartments

Maybe you're into fitness and have a workout routine in place, but the options above just don't cut it for you. In that case, there are gyms around Tuscaloosa that are open all day and night with all the equipment you could ask for. But, of course, that's going to cost extra. If specific equipment and availability at any time is what you need, though, then there are plenty of local and commercial gyms that aren't too far from most student apartment complexes. It should be noted as well that these gyms usually understand that college students aren't made of money. Ask about student discounts to make your fitness more affordable!

Getting and staying in shape isn't the easiest thing to do, especially when your access to a gym is inconsistent or inconvenient. Making your fitness a priority means finding a place that has everything your routine needs and that you can visit frequently. If that requires mixing options like university facilities and apartment amenities, then go for it. It might be tricky to find the right balance when you first leave the dorms, but maintaining your health while living off-campus is definitely doable!
