The University of Alabama
is known for having traditions and establishing Alabama culture that students often participate in. Here are a few examples of the traditions that students can do to get out of their apartment near UA and make college exciting, memorable, and worthwhile at UA.

Roll Tide and Roll Tide Roll

Whenever someone says,Roll Tide,” you automatically think of the Alabama football team or UA. “Roll Tide” and “Roll Tide Roll” are popular chants used by students and fans at Alabama football games. The phrase "Roll Tide" is also used as a greeting among members of the university community and fans worldwide! Fans yell “Roll Tide Roll” to encourage the Alabama Crimson Tide athletic teams.

Fall Season Traditions

During the fall semester, it is all about football, tailgating, Denny hot dogs and the color crimson! Students look forward to football season and being inside Bryant Denny Stadium with their friends and family. Game Day attire is a big tradition! Students gather at their UA off-campus housing residences to dress to impress in the colors crimson and white

Tailgating near your apartment near the Quad has become the biggest tradition during football season. Before the game, students will tailgate outside the student center in the quad, where there’s hundreds of tents with food, different food trucks, games, and other activities! Tailgating is something every UA student should experience! However, there are other activities and events that students can attend.

The Alabama football team walks through the Walk of Champions, a line of fans that leads to the stadium and watch the football team enter the stadium. The Walk of Champions takes place outside of Bryant-Denny Stadium 2 hours prior to kickoff. This tradition began in 2009 and has been carried on since. Before each home football game, the Alabama Million Dollar Band leads a parade through campus that ends with the Elephant Stomp, a large pep rally where students gather to cheer on the team and wish them luck!

UA celebrates homecoming each year with a week-long series of events. This includes a parade, events hosted by some student organizations, pep rallies, and the homecoming football game. One of the big events they do is a big bonfire on The Quad

After Alabama wins a football game, the students and fans often chant "Rammer Jammer" in celebration. As an Alabama fan, you must know all the pride and fight songs! Another popular song is “Yea Alabama.” The Million Dollar Band often performs this song during football games and the fans sing the lyrics!

Big Al the Mascot

Big Al is the University of Alabama's elephant mascot. He can be seen at football games and other university events and other athletic events in basketball games. Many students love to take pictures with big Al whenever they see him on campus!

Denny Chimes and UA’s Alma Mater

Denny Chimes is a bell tower on the University of Alabama campus. It is a popular meeting spot for students and is often used as a backdrop for graduation photos. Every day at noon the time rings out the alma mater! The alma mater is sung during graduation ceremonies by professional vocalists, graduates, and their families.
